The Kosice 2025 organisers, the Slovak Association for the Disabled, have hosted several European Championships in the past as well as regularly staging other competitions. Most recently Košice was host to the 2024 Para Dance Sport World Cup in September, following on from an edition in 2023. 

The programme will offer a full compliment of medal events in combi and duo Latin freestyle and standard, and men’s and women’s singles freestyle. 

Peter Vidasic. President of the Local Organising Committee, said: “We are very happy that the World Para Dance Sport Championships will be held in Košice. It will be the first time in Slovakia and we are very happy about it. We believe that the dancers will feel comfortable in Košice and that the Slovak fans will create the same atmosphere as in 2016 at the European Championships.” 

The 2025 Para Dance Sport World Championships will crown another busy season for dancers. 

Four International Competitions have so far been included on the calendar for the coming year with more expected, alongside courses for athletes, coaches and officials.  

Charmaine Hooper, World Abilitysport’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “2025 will be an exciting year for Para dance sport and we are happy to announce that the experienced hosts in Košice will take a big step up and host a World Championships for the first time. I am confident they and all the athletes from around the world will put on a great show there and at all competitions.  

“More widely, since taking over the governance for the sport, we have been planning how we can continue to drive it forward and reach new people, countries and fans. We are working on a new look for World Para Dance Sport which will be launched in January to kick-start the new year in style, and we have big plans for developing the sport’s rules and new impairment groups, as well as expert working groups who are helping us to ensure Para dance sport reaches its full potential.”

Still to come in 2024, the Para Dance Sport European Championships will take place in Prague, Czechia, from 22-24 November and the Asian Pacific Open Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 16-17 December.
